Computer generated imagery proliferate, a phenomenon observable in the realm of politics, advertisement or in the entertainment industry for the past 30 years. Looking back, images have always been playing a major role in how dominant narratives have been established, contributing to a common understanding of the context we are living in. We are now facing the rise of computer-generated imagery, on its way of becoming the dominant image since the current technologies allow us to simulate every single bit of our environment. Observing the pattern of a feedback loop between representations and their subject through history, we can, therefore, wonder what realities these technologies will produce in their attempt to achieve a more accurate representations of our world. Besides being a reflection on the medium, this paper is meant as an investigation into the effects and affects of contemporary image production techniques and more specifically: computer-generated imagery resulting from 3D softwares of machine learning algorithms.
