Narratives on EM
Narratives on EM is the working title on the on-going project, which is an investigation on myth making, history writing and colonial heritage. Narratives on EM centers on Geo-politic issues in the Arctic around economics and postcolonial futures. Through the research on the different narratives on the phenomenon Ejnar Mikkelsen (EM), whom was a Danish coloniser and polar explorer in the early 20th century in Greenland, and to whom I can call my great grandfather, I am trying to contextualise the complex matter of constructed myths of the coloniser. This on-going research is unfolding and questioning public and private archives on political documents, diaries, images and books written by and about EM. Through auto-fictional writing, object translations, moving images and interviews, is this project conceptualizing the urgent matter of my own colonial heritage and how it correspond to the current Geo-political context of the Arctic. The current translations are visualised in a booklet, ring, glasses, video and furniture. With the inspiration of what a fake documentary implies, I am trying to make a translation with moving images footage of my family, dealing with our colonial heritage in Greenland, and the complexity it evolves.
