Biography

Yesside Johnson works with the subjects of undocumented migration, financial/social precarity and class inequity, making these situations visible as remnants of colonialism. Through a collision of languages, a form of liquid community out of borderless and mutual experience in diaspora is implemented, generating a nuanced form of activism that manifests as a subtle confrontation. Drawing from personal and shared experience that force a certain desolation of the self, Johnson brings together found and discarded objects as signs and symbols of the logistics of capitalism as both an intention and enforced economy to expose western-centric privilege. And to voice a hybrid language that posits a diasporic existence as its base.
