Ammar Bader
Department / Programme
Nationality
Syria
From Syria and based in the Netherlands for the past five years, Ammar arrived with nothing and is actively building the life he envisions through his creative practice. Operating across a wide range of disciplines as a performer, sound artist, and sculptor, he frequently works with found materials while choreographing and orchestrating collaborative projects with others. His multidisciplinary practice operates at the intersection of site-specific performance, bio-sculpture, and public interventions, investigating the physical and psychological landscapes of our shared environments. Ammar is deeply invested in exposing the invisible power dynamics and social frictions embedded within everyday and institutional spaces. By staging visceral, participatory rituals in unexpected locations—from liminal spaces to open public spaces—he aims to disrupt passive spatial routines and challenge the structures that govern collective behavior. Central to his work is the integration of heavy, tactile matter such as earth, clay, wax, living entities, flesh, and liquid. He utilizes these elemental materials to physicalize unseen tensions and push the boundaries of bodily endurance. Through rigorous choreographic encounters that merge intense physicality with raw materiality, he constructs temporary realities demanding active, embodied engagement. Ultimately, Ammar's art is an inquiry into vulnerability and collective processing, inviting audiences into a shared, undeniable present where we can actively reimagine how to inhabit our world.
