UNDER CONSTRUCTION brought together communities in new city areas under construction. Departing from the building site, UNDER CONSTRUCTION investigated the potential contribution of design and the arts towards processes of "commoning" from the perspective of academia, the arts, creative industry, and civil society.
Project Zeeburgereiland departed from a plot of land at Sportheldenbuurt in Amsterdam east that was made temporarily available by the City of Amsterdam. The project brought together three main partners: BPD with the building project ‘Woon&’, Sandberg Instituut Temporary Programme The Commoners' Society (2018–2020), and Rietveld Academie Lectoraat Art and Public Space with the research consortium "Contemporary Commoning: Investigating the role of art and design in creating spaces for public action."
