Tapping Water [Research]
How can we think about something as local as our taps and global as freshwater? The research investigates tap water infrastructure spaces through sonic investigation and on-site research, with an undercurrent of infrastructure politics, freshwater scarcity, and drops of hydro-feminist perspectives on watery imaginaries. A collection of fluid thoughts tamed in the form of written text and soundscapes traces the local source of water that feeds the Amsterdam tap water supply. Taking the case study as an entry point to start reflecting on how these infrastructures influence the way we organize public, private, and (geo)political space. The project suggests the practice of listening to sense the complexity and dynamics through which tap water infrastructures reveal themselves from unexpected perspectives. Parts of the writing slip out on a set of engraved glasses and a water bar as an invitation to draw connections between the bliss of running water and the challenges of water scarcity, inequalities, and policies of water management.
