Generating Distance

Generating Distance is a game design workshop in which the participants are invited to create an action-adventure game played in the real world from a third-person perspective. This workshops draws on the perceptual shifting present in the climate discourse that brought to an awareness to non-human entities which ignited a shift of the centre of the world away from the human realm, forcing humans to see themselves from a third-person perspective, making it impossible for them to archive final distance towards the world. During the game the participant is be able to experience the distance of their own body, developing an uncanny awareness of their own movements and actions and positioning their own selves in the world of fiction. Allowing a cognitive and physical distance between themselves (the player) and their character (the avatar). Workshop run at Hackers & Designers Summer Academy 2019 (Amsterdam NL)
