I Am Lucky When I Am Not Distracted This Time

’I am Lucky When I Am Not Distracted This Time’ is a text based performance that interlaces political statements and thoughts around privilege, trauma, and institutionalized oppression. It is performed with a voice transformer and centers around questioning what it means to be distracted and how distraction can be seen as a constructed phenomenon under capitalist structures that does not allow for us to be. The entire text, apart from its title, made up out of 36 footnotes. This is a political gesture that is also touched upon in the content. Moving the margins to the center is in many ways a necessary queer move. “We need to pay attention to those that fall under the radar, those living on the margins, shushed by institutions. In doing that, we might feel distracted, but actually, when we look at who is legally protected but socially violated, we pay attention to those on the margins that matter.”
